In its 20th year, Gurugram’s prestigious Maru Mal Memorial Inter-school Cricket Tournament (MMMICT) confirmed participation of a total of 38 teams out of which were 6 all-girls school teams. In keeping abreast with the “BetiBachao, BetiPadhao” scheme, this competition is one of the many initiatives being undertaken by M. M. Public School, to further the interest of the girl child in education.

Rooted in humble beginnings, the competition started with participation from 8 neighboring schools, in 1999, but has gained prestige over the years to become the most prestigious under-19 cricketing event among Gurugram schools. Due to overwhelming re

sponse over the past few years, the competition decided to scale the event to double its size in the previous years. Last year we introduced the Maru Mal Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament Champions Trophy for Under-14 boys, with an aim to catch the talent young. It has kindled an early interest and far reaching results. The monumental effort bore fruit and we feel proud to see our students playing at District, State and National level.

The XXI edition of the competition will see 40 teams – 32 boys teams (U 14 & U 19), and 8 girls teams, competing for the coveted trophies over 15 grueling match-days. The teams will be divided into two groups of 16 teams each for boys, and 4 teams for girls. These groups will play the knockout round to decide which two teams from each group respectively will face-off in the finals, which will be conducted on the 2nd December. The tournament will kick-off on the 20th November, under the esteemed presence of eminent sporting and political personalities. Our previous year’s tournaments witnessed eminent personalities such as Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla, Minister of Finance, Government of India, Shri. Manoj Tiwari, Chief, BJP Delhi Unit, Shri. Anup Kumar, Captain Indian Kabaddi Team & U Mumba.

Shri. Devesh Gupta, chairman of M. M. Public School shares his vision for the tournament:
“We, at MMPS, view this tournament as an opportunity to bring together schoo

ls of NCR, and facilitate collaboration among otherwise isolated schools. We are also working to transform the tournament into a budding ground for state and district level cricketers. To achieve this, we continue to invest in the tournament to make this a 50-team event, replete with celebrity umpires, selectors from local cricketing bodies, and day-and-night matches.”
In the year 2020 we intend to take the primary level students into our fold, thus widening the scope and ambit of the tournament.
